1.1

Gloucestershire County Council (the council) operates a Shared Lives scheme known as Gloucestershire Shared Lives (we / GSL).

1.2

GSL is an alternative to traditional social care or health services. It is a service where someone aged 18 and over with an assessed eligible health or social care need can be supported for a few hours, a few days or live on a long-term basis with a GSL carer in their home as part of their family.

1.3

This policy sets out requirements for safe medication administration within a GSL arrangement.  Please see the Gloucestershire Shared Lives policy for more information about GSL arrangements.

Gloucestershire Shared Lives Policy can be found here: https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/health-and-social-care/adult-social-care/social-care-policies-and-procedures/

1.4

GSL carers should follow the best practice as described by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng67/chapter/Recommendations#transportingstoring-and-disposing-of-medicines
