Promoting choice: positive risk management
As service users are given more choice in how their needs are met there will need to be consideration given as to the degree of risk that individuals expose themselves to since people with capacity may choose to make decisions which could be considered as unwise.
The policy identifies how staff can identify and manage risk in conjunction with service users and their carers and families. There is also a section on what to do if an incident does occur.
It seeks to clarify the difference between a reckless disregard of personal safety and a managed but identified risk.
