Using your Blue Badge
It is your responsibility to know how, when, and where to use your Blue Badge. The badge is linked to you, not to a specific vehicle. This means you can use it in any car, whether you are the driver or a passenger.
Your responsibilities
Make sure you’re meeting the following responsibilities when using your Blue Badge:
- Display the badge clearly in the vehicle.
- Ensure the badge is in date.
- Be the only person using it.
Expiry and renewal
Using an expired badge is illegal and may result in a fine. A renewal reminder will be sent 13 weeks before your badge expires. Apply as soon as you receive the letter.
Where you can use your badge
You can use your Blue Badge anywhere in the UK. Rules may vary by area, so check with the local council before you travel. Full details are available on the Government website: Blue Badge Scheme Rights and Responsibilities.
Some EU countries also recognise Blue Badges. Check the Government website before travelling: Using a blue badge in the European Union.
Updating your details
If you have moved to Gloucestershire and need to renew a badge issued by another council:
- Contact the original issuing council first. They need your consent to transfer your record.
- Then contact our Blue Badge team and provide proof of your address. We will send you a renewal reminder 13 weeks before your badge expires.
If you have moved house, contact the Blue Badge team and provide proof of your new address.
