Learning Disability Partnership Board
Jan Marriott, Zara Humphrey and Tim Heaven are the Co-Chairs of the Partnership Board. They say:
"The Partnership Board is very important in Gloucestershire. It brings together lots of people to work on making things better for people with learning disabilities and their families. If you would like to come to our meetings we would love to see you".
What is the Learning Disability Partnership Board?
Gloucestershire County Council and the Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group help the Partnership Board to do a good job. The Partnership Board is made up of people who meet to plan and decide what needs to happen to make the lives of people with learning disabilities better. The Partnership Board has a lot of people because it is important to involve as many people and organisations as possible.
Who is on the Partnership Board?
- People with learning disabilities with support from Gloucestershire Voices
- Families with support from Carers Gloucestershire
- People who work in health, social care, employment, the police, the voluntary sector
- People who decide how to spend the money for services for people with learning disabilities
We try to make sure that at least half the Partnership Board is people with learning disabilities and families.
How the Partnership Board works
People come to the Board to talk about issues that matter to people with Learning Disabilities. The Board also talk and give their views about changes that are planned in Gloucestershire and nationally. Members also talk about areas that we think could be better at and monitor progress. We try to make sure everyone talks to us in language we can all understand.
For the last 5 years the Board has been trying to make sure the Big Plan happens as this will make peoples' lives better.
The Big Plan ends in 2015 and it has led to a new 10 year plan called Building Better Lives which will improve the lives of all people. This includes all children, young people and adults with disabilities. It talks a lot about co-production which means that people must be involved in planning and making the changes. For more information, please visit the Building Better Lives page.
How the Partnership Board involves more people
The County Council helped to set up Gloucestershire Voices to make sure people with learning disability have a strong voice. It is a user-led organisation in Gloucestershire.
Gloucestershire Voices holds local Area Action Groups in:
The Local Area Groups listen to what is happening at the Partnership Board and can give their opinions. They can also say what things they think the Partnership Board need to hear about and do something about.
