What does Gloucestershire Equipment Loan Service do?

What we do
The Gloucestershire Equipment Loan Service (GELS) loans equipment to Gloucestershire residents to support them in their home to achieve or maintain independence, and/or to support carers. The service is funded by the Gloucestershire County Council and local NHS partners.
GELS supply equipment following an assessment of needs by a healthcare professional. Once the healthcare professional submits an order, the transport team contacts the resident to arrange delivery and fitting of equipment.
The service supplies equipment to those who have been assessed as needing them, such as:
- Beds
- Hoists
- Shower chairs
- Walking frames, etc.
GELS will arrange delivery of equipment around the residents or their support network’s availability.
Using equipment
Hoists, beds, bath lifts and air mattresses are covered by a breakdown and servicing contract and are serviced regularly. Slings issued with hoists should be made available for inspection by the service.
Before using electrical equipment, please check plugs and wiring are not frayed or damaged.
