Theme 7: Diversification of services

The increasing complexity of individuals receiving care will have a long-term impact on the design of care settings and the types of services offered, which will have considerable financial implications.
Care home providers felt that smaller homes may be more able to diversify their services than bigger organisations. For example, the ability to offer a transitional respite service that may divert admission from long-term care, if rehabilitation or another targeted intervention could be offered alongside for a defined period.

Providers of support for adults of working age recognised a potential need to re-consider the de-registration of care homes to supported living services if demand for bed-based care increases as the people they support get older.
