Professionals' area
Frontline professionals, such as healthcare workers, social workers, teachers, and police officers, play a vital role in safeguarding people and their families. Because they often interact directly with people, often in vulnerable situations, they are uniquely positioned to notice signs of domestic abuse early on. This awareness is crucial, as it can lead to timely intervention, protection, and support for those affected.
Being domestic abuse aware means recognising the different forms abuse can take, whether this is physical, emotional, economic, coercive, etc., and responding with sensitivity and confidence. It helps professionals fulfil their legal and safeguarding responsibilities, protect children and adults at risk, and contribute to breaking the cycle of abuse. By understanding the impact of domestic abuse and knowing how to act, frontline workers can make a real difference in someone’s life.
