Domestic Abuse Strategy

The duty requires the strategy to consider the support needs of victims of domestic abuse and their children in relevant safe accommodation. In Gloucestershire the Domestic Abuse Local Partnership Board has chosen to wider the scope of its strategy to ensure a holistic approach to domestic abuse experienced by all victims and their children not limited to those receiving support in safe accommodation.

The Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Strategy (2021 – 2024) has been informed by the findings of the Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Needs Assessment (2021), which can be found on the Inform - Domestic Abuse page. A consultation and engagement exercise which sought the views of service users and the wider community has informed both the needs assessment and strategy.

A three year delivery plan is being developed for the implementation of the strategy. This will provide the detail of how each outcome identified in the strategy will be achieved and how progress towards this will be monitored. The Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Strategy has been developed at pace to meet the new statutory duties placed on local authorities by the Domestic Abuse Act. In acknowledgement of this it is our intension to refresh the strategy in 2022 to ensure that full consideration is given to other relevant strategies (nationally and locally) and any further government guidance and strategies developed that are relevant to the domestic abuse agenda. At the refresh we will also consider if the scope of the strategy needs to be further widened to include children. The strategy will then be refreshed every 3 years in line with statutory requirements.

Funding from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) is made available to local authorities to support the delivery of their statutory duties, primarily the provision of support to victims of domestic abuse and their children in relevant safe accommodation.

This funding is allocated on an annual basis for the first three years of the statutory duties, the level of the funding received will be fully considered in the scope of the delivery plan on an ongoing basis.
