New Road Blakeney Landslip - Site Location Plan
What work has taken place?
The geotechnical team has been monitoring the ground movement on a regular basis since the problem was reported. A geotechnical investigation was completed in November 2020. Inclinometers were installed during the geotechnical investigation; these have been used to determine the slope failure mechanism.
Here are some photographs of the ground movement, which demonstrate why the road was closed:

What are we doing?
The design has been completed and a contractor (Knights Brown) has been appointed to undertake the work.
The remedial solution will comprise a bored pile wall to support the road. In addition, a Road Restraint System will also be installed to improve the road safety at this location.
The works will also include rerouting of services on site, to provide continued access to local residents and to ensure a safe working environment during construction.
Due to the challenging site constraints such as the failed slope, existing services and the limited working area a road closure will be required for the duration of the works.
When will work start?
The contractor is due to start work on the site from 17th January 2022, construction is due to finish Summer 2022.
We will keep you updated with any changes to the programme on this web page.
During this time there will be no vehicle, cycle or pedestrian access permitted through the works area.
Two diversion routes are currently proposed for the works:
1. For travellers who would have been travelling west along New Road – see Map of Diversion Route 1
a. From New Road travel east to the A48 then turn south
b. Take the first right onto the unnamed road which then becomes the Bailey Hill road then the Yorkley Road
c. Take a right on an unnamed road which goes past The Rising Sun Inn
d. Take a right onto Fancy Road which then becomes New Road
2. For local residents who would have been travelling west from New Road to Blakeney Hill Road – see Map of Diversion Route 2
a. Turn right from New Road onto Clark’s Lane
b. Turn left off Clark’s Lane onto Blakeney Hill Road
