Request archaeological data from Gloucestershire's Historic Environment Record (HER)
What information is available?
Gloucestershire's Historic Environment Record (HER) holds over 42,000 computerised records of archaeological sites, historic buildings and other notable sites of historic interest from prehistoric burial chambers to Second World War pill boxes, battlefield sites, and historic parks and gardens. Information is also available on Scheduled Monuments, Listed Buildings, Registered Battlefields or Registered Parks and Gardens.
Who is it for?
We encourage enquiries from prospective developers for professional purposes and from members of the public, students or local groups researching the history of their houses, parishes or any other aspect of the heritage of the county.
How do I request information?
What do I get if I make an enquiry?
The default search includes an HER report and maps (HER data, Scheduled Monuments, Registered Battlefields, Registered Parks and Gardens, National Mapping Programme features and Town Development Maps from the Historic Towns Survey). Reports are supplied as HTML files. Mapping data is provided as ESRI shape files and/or a PDF 'plot'. HLC maps and extra information from, for example, 'grey literature' reports can usually be provided by email and other documents, historic maps and archaeological reports can be accessed at the HER office.
How much does it cost?
The enquiry is free for householders, local groups and students as long as the information is not used to generate a profit. Our standard fee for commercial searches is £122 + VAT (£146.40)
How long will the enquiry take?
Non commercial HER enquiries are usually dealt with in 1-2 weeks. We aim to deal with commercial enquiries within 48 hours (but this may not always be possible).
