Billy - Finance Officer

One word to describe Gloucester County Council would be VALUBLE

My role and responsibilities

Include providing support to various budget holders, downloading and interpreting data from our accounting software and various databases, attending team meetings, performing finance checks on external customers, and answering ad-hoc queries. I’ve always been given the chance to take on new tasks and not left to my own devices with a set workload and that’s it. I started as an AAT finance trainee and am now studying CIPFA  qualification at the same time, GCC give me day release to study and take exams as part of my workload.

It’s rewarding to feel your work contributes to the wider organisation, whos primary goal is to support and help people.

The variety in services the council offers makes for an interesting workspace, with so many different things. I am Gloucester born and bred along with most of my family and friends, so the work that the council does as a whole comes up in many day-to-day conversations. It’s rewarding to feel your work contributes to the wider organisation, whos primary goal is to support and help people.

I can be flexible with my work / life balance

The flexi-hours work very well for me. It means that I can be flexible with my life. I can start late or leave early if I need to. I can take lunch at a time that suits me and take the dog out for a walk when working from home.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?

The great thing about joining GCC is that the values of the organisation, we are people focused, compared to a profit focused private organisation meaning you don’t feel like a number on a page but an individual with support and involved in decision making
