A bit about me

I manage a team of 25 Finance professionals, and are responsible for overseeing and managing the delivery of timely & accurate financial information, which includes the  production of the Statement of Accounts, production of statutory returns, Medium Term Financial Strategy, Treasury Management and Tax and VAT guidance. Developing the team to reach their full potential, recognising strengths and upholding the GCC values, whilst providing a professional financial service, to make appropriate decisions that allow service delivery to be financially sustainable.

I work with a great team, colleagues support each other and follow the GCC core values.

Agile working has seen a shift from being office based, to having the ICT equipment to allow us to work from home.  I do enjoy the days I am in the office as I see the benefits of the in person meetings as well as the convenience of on line meetings.

Career development

I began my career as an Accounts assistant, many years ago. I have been supported in gaining a wealth of experience in all aspects of Local Government finance. Taking opportunities to move sidewards to gain experience and progress upwards through the grades to my current position. I have been supported in my studies, gaining the Association of Accounting Technicians qualification and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, latterly becoming a Fellow Member of the ACCA.

GCC is an accredited Employer for AAT, CIPFA, CIMA and ACCA, which demonstrates how committed we are to supporting the team in obtaining  professional qualifications.

Supportive, motivated workforce

From the time staff begin their career journey in GCC they are supported, there is an induction programme, training, and support programmes available to ensure health and well being is maintained.  I believe that supporting health & well being of staff is key to maintaining a motivated workforce.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?

Do it – there are opportunities to provide a support service (finance) to the front line services to deliver services to the residents of Gloucestershire.
