Welcome message from Jason Humm, Director of Transport and Highways

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our highways vacancies.

Thank you for your interest in the roles within our Highways, Traffic and Transport services.   Due to increasing investment in our roads and infrastructure, we have several key vacancies waiting for the right individual to join our expanding team.

Over the last four years we have started on the journey of investing in the condition of local roads in Gloucestershire and have completed almost 700 schemes resulting in 507 miles of new surface. We know there is more to do and we now need to widen our focus to include minor roads. One major investment in our roads which means is an upgrade to M5 Junction 10 in support of the delivery of future housing and employment growth; the A417 Missing Link to improve highway safety and remove a pinch-point within the strategic road network; expand capacity on Gloucester’s south-west bypass to improve travel within the city; and the West of Cheltenham Transport Infrastructure Scheme to enable delivery of Cyber Central.

We want to deliver safer roads, healthier streets; lowering speed limits where people live and building more crossing points to achieve the Vision Zero road safety ambition by 2050 and enable 50% of all urban trips to be walking and cycling by 2045.

Working closely with our partners, we are embarking on our transformation journey to improve our infrastructure and ultimately the experience of our residents. It’s a great time to join us and being part of our exciting plans.

In return as an employer, we offer agile, flexible working with an extensive employee wellbeing package including: Local Government Pension Scheme membership, a cycle to work scheme and a staff benefits scheme. It’s not just a great council, but it’s a great place to live and work. Gloucester is located in the picturesque Cotswolds superbly located between Cardiff, Bristol, Oxford and Birmingham. Classed as the cathedral city, Gloucester has a lot to offer.
