Black History Month 2020

Hello and welcome to our Black History Month webpages!

Black History takes place during October every year in the UK. This year the theme is “Let’s End Racism”.

We felt it especially important this year to recognise and celebrate Black History Month in light of the devastating impact the coronavirus outbreak has had on Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) individuals and communities, and in recognition of the death of George Floyd and the renewed and heightened conversations about societal and institutional racism.

Many people find it difficult to have conversations about race and racism for fear of getting it wrong, but want to be part of change. We’ve put together some simple resources that will help you study in private or with other people such as your friends, family or colleagues.

The resources are thought provoking and at times challenging, but they have been carefully selected to start honest conversations that will help us all learn and grow.

We hope that you will join us in celebrating Black History Month and that you enjoy, learn from and make use of the resources to understand the issues that BAME people face.

We will have a different theme each week so please keep checking back to the page.

We will also be sharing information and resources on Twitter (@GlosCC) and Facebook (@GloucestershireCountyCouncil).
