The Index of Multiple Deprivation is a measure of relative deprivation for Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs). LSOAs have an average population of 1,500 people or 650 households. Every LSOA in England is given an overall score (which is based on thirty-seven indicators grouped into seven domains). The score is used to rank all LSOAs in England. There are 12 Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in Gloucestershire which fall into the top 10% nationally.
The term ward is generally a more familiar term, which covers a slightly different boundary to an LSOA. The twelve 12 LSOAs in Gloucestershire which are in the 10% most deprived nationally fall into ten wards which are listed above.
