Apply for a copy birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate
Before applying, please ensure you read and follow the below steps:
- Ensure the event was registered in Gloucestershire.
We only hold records for events that took place within the Gloucestershire District. Not all GL postcodes are within Gloucestershire. Please visit: the WWW.GOV.UK site where you can enter the postcode of where the event happened.
Please note: Events that occurred in Berkeley
- If the event occurred from 1st June 1837 – 30th June 1948, you can apply here in Gloucestershire
- If the event occurred from 1st July 1948 – 31st March 1974, you will need to contact: South Gloucestershire Council (southglos.gov.uk)
- If the event occurred from 1st April 1974 onwards, you can apply here in Gloucestershire.

For us to find your entry, you will need to obtain the following information before you can apply:

Please ensure you have a credit or debit card to make payment. - A full certificate is for £12.50 to be issued after 10 working days. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 2nd class post.
- A short certificate for £12.50 to be issued after 10 working days. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 2nd class post.
Please note a short birth certificate does not include details of the parents and not accepted by passport offices or other organisations.
Priority Service
A priority service is available for any type of certificate for £38.50 to be issued on the next working day. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class post.
Please note this service is not available at weekends or Bank Holidays
Collection
At the time of ordering, there is an option to request collection from:

You will be contacted when your certificate is ready for collection. If you do not collect within 10 days of us contacting you, your certificate will be posted to the address on your application.
