Apply for a certificate

 

Apply for a copy birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate.

Before you apply, please make sure you have read and followed the steps below.

 

Check the event was registered in Gloucestershire

We only hold records for events that took place within the Gloucestershire Registration District. Please note that not all GL postcodes fall within Gloucestershire.

If you are unsure, you can check the correct registration district by entering the event postcode on the GOV.UK website.


Please note: Events that occurred in Berkeley

The registration district for Berkeley has changed over time. Please follow the guidance below:

  • 1 June 1837 – 30 June 1948: Apply here with Gloucestershire.
  • 1 July 1948 – 31 March 1974: Contact South Gloucestershire Council (southglos.gov.uk).
  • 1 April 1974 onwards: Apply here with Gloucestershire.

Cost / Payment

Please ensure you have a credit or debit card to make payment.

  • A full certificate costs £12.50 and will be issued after 10 working days. Certificates are sent via Royal Mail 2nd Class post.
  • A short certificate is available if you would like one. Please note, a short birth certificate does not include parent details and is not accepted by passport offices or many other organisations. 

 

Priority Service

A priority service is available for any type of certificate for £38.50 to be issued on the next working day. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class post.

Please note this service is not available at weekends or Bank Holidays

Collection

At the time of ordering, there is an option to request collection from:

You will be contacted when your certificate is ready for collection. If you do not collect within 10 days of us contacting you, your certificate will be posted to the address on your application.
