Postal Strike

We have been made aware that staff at Royal Mail who collect, sort and deliver post have been called to take strike action on a number of days during November and December 2022.

Gloucestershire Registration Service will continue to produce and dispatch certificates within our normal timeframes, but please allow additional time for receipt.

We have been advised that post will not be collected on Friday 9th, Wednesday 14th, Thursday 15th, and Friday 23rd December.  All certificates may be collected in person from Gloucestershire Registration Service based with Gloucestershire Heritage Hub, Clarence Row, Alvin Street, Gloucester GL1 3DW.  The Heritage Hub will be open until 4.30pm on Friday 23rd December, and will reopen at 9.00am on Tuesday, 3rd January 2023. Please ask at the time of ordering if you wish to collect your certificates, or email us CopyCertificates@gloucestershire.gov.uk. You will be contacted by the Copy Certificates Team when the certificate is ready for collection.

Apply for a copy birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate

Please note:  We only hold records for events which took place in Gloucestershire.  If you need a copy of a certificate for an event outside of Gloucestershire or a copy of an adoption certificate, please use the related links. They are on the right of this page if you are on a PC / Laptop and at the bottom of this page if you are using a tablet / smartphone.

You can order:

  • A full birth, marriage/civil partnership or death certificate for £11.00 to be dispatched within 7 calendar days. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 2nd class delivery service.
  • A short birth certificate for £11.00 to be dispatched within 7 calendar days. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 2nd class delivery service. Please note this does not include details of the parents and not accepted by passport offices or other organisations.
  • An express copy of any certificate for £35 to be dispatched within 24 hours of receipt. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 1st Class delivery service which aims to deliver on the next working day (including Saturdays)  Please note this service is not available at weekends or on Bank Holidays.

All certificates must be paid for before we issue them.  Gloucestershire Registration Service is not liable for any certificates that are delayed or lost in the post.
