Community

Reducing structural inequalities, upskilling residents and providing better opportunities is essential to creating a prosperous and inclusive county.

While Gloucestershire has generally higher-than-average quality of life in comparison to the rest of the UK, there are areas that sit within the most deprived 10% of the country, where life expectancy, job opportunities and overall quality of life is much poorer. The council recognises that more needs to be done to ensure these disadvantaged communities are given the appropriate support and interventions to improve their quality of life and the opportunities available to them.

The council suppliers delivered a range of community objectives through social value efforts so far, such as:

⏰ Delivered 973 hours of volunteering time to support local community projects to improve community wellbeing.

💷 Donated or contributed £28,532 to local community projects (£ and materials).

🧠 Invested £6,482 in innovate measures to enable healthier, safer and more resilient communities – this includes financial donations, staff time through volunteering, and donations of resources.

🎽 Invested £8,582 in initiatives that aim to promote and increase health and wellbeing in the community through fitness programmes, nutrition support and reducing substance abuse.

Connected Kerb (CK) have committed to supporting the local economy and communities within Gloucestershire. Working in collaboration with Go Volunteer Glos and Gloucestershire VCSE Alliance, HR specialists from CK hosted a free interactive Masterclass for small VCSE groups and organisations to strengthen their HR policies and practices.  The workshop focused on employee engagement and facilitators shared practical ideas for quick wins as well as confronted challenging areas that are a common occurrence in the HR space. The event proved to be popular, being fully booked and receiving positive feedback from attendees suggesting that there should be further workshops for VCSEs to support growth and recruitment through developing better HR strategies. Gloucestershire VCSE Alliance and GVG will build on this initiative to look for further opportunities to promote social value within the county.
