Work

In total, our suppliers have collectively hired 531 employees in full-time equivalent (FTE) roles from the local area since 2022. While some of our contracts were always going to require local employment, specifying this as social value has allowed us to ensure suppliers are doing what they can to boost employment opportunities within Gloucestershire.

To align with the council’s ambition to make Gloucestershire an inclusive county, many of our suppliers have committed to measures that specifically target underrepresented or disadvantaged groups. So far, our suppliers have:

👨‍🏭 Hired 18 FTE staff on contract who were long term unemployed, referring to those who have been unemployed for over a year.

👩‍🍳 Hired seven FTE staff who were young people Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEETs). Suppliers have also provided 65 weeks of meaningful unpaid work placements for NEET individuals to support them into future employment.

♿ Hired six FTE disabled people on contract.

Employers are key to shaping the future workforce: when young people connect with a range of employers in meaningful ways, they acquire essential skills, expand their networks, and gain insights into the evolving job market.  Our suppliers have delivered on a wide range of measures that promote training and skills development for local people, such as:

👨‍💻 932 weeks of apprenticeships on contract (Level 2, 3 or 4+).

👩‍🏫 109 weeks of accredited vocational training opportunities on contract (Level 2, 3 or 4+) for new employees.

✍ 907 hours of personalised support to help unemployed people get into work, such as mock interviews, CV advice and career guidance. 560 of these hours were targeted at people over the age of 24 who do not benefit from more widely available employment support directed at young adults and NEETs.

🏫 2033 staff volunteering hours spent on local school and college visits (including prep time).  This includes corporate presentations, career talks and industry specific talks to help young people with future employment.

💷 £4,677 invested in innovative measures to promote local skills and employment, with the aim of increasing skills and employment opportunities for local residents to access work and create sustainable employment opportunities that respond directly to the needs of the local community.
