The council respects and supports an individual’s right to privacy when going about their lawful business. As such, before installing any CCTV or surveillance camera system, we will:
- consider if something else could be done that would be less intrusive on people’s privacy,
- identify any risks that are associated with recording this type of personal information,
- consider how the risks can be minimised to ensure that any personal data captured is secure,
- consider and assess the proportionality of installing cameras that can record audio,
- consider the locations of our cameras to ensure they do not record sensitive activities like financial card transactions, intimate care or people privately observing religious beliefs,
- ensure each system has up to date signage to inform members of the public when and where cameras are in operation.
