Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS)

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service is part of the council and incorporates other community safety related services such as Emergency Management, Trading Standards, Coroners and Road Safety.

The service is administered from the Tri-Service site in Quedgeley which co-locates Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service with Gloucestershire Constabulary. Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service have 21 community fire stations with 33 front line fire engines strategically located across Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) sets out how we will make Gloucestershire safer over the next four years and identifies the greatest risks to the people and communities of Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire County Council fulfils the role of the Fire Authority as prescribed under the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004.

As the Fire Authority, the council is primarily responsible for:

  • Setting the overarching Corporate strategy.
  • Making key decisions where:
    • Significant change or impact will affect two or more communities or wards
    • Expenditure or savings exceeding £500,000 are concerned
  • Oversight, challenge, evaluation and reporting in respect of Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service business decisions and activities
  • Internal audit of Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service activities to ensure, among other things, the correctness of all income and expenditure and;
  • Provision of an Annual governance statement as set out in the Accounts and Audit (England) Regulations 2015.
