Gender pay gap

Mean gap - men's hourly rate is 3.4% higher than women's. This has decreased from the GCC 2022 figure of 3.9%. National figure 13.15% (ONS 2022). Median gap - men's hourly rate is 1.9% higher than women's. This has decreased from the GCC 2022 figure of 3.2%. National figure 12.2% (ONS 2022). Average hourly rate - men: mean hourly rate of £18.53 and median hourly rate of £16.91. Women: mean hourly rate of £17.90 and median hourly rate of £16.59.

As at 31 March 2023, GCC had a mean (average) gender pay gap of 3.4% and a median (mid-point) pay gap of 1.9%, mean down from 3.9% and median down from 3.2% in March last year (2022).

In September 2019 GCC conducted a review into Local Government Service ‘Green Book’ pay and grading structure. An interim calculation (as at 31 October 2019) of gender pay gap following implementation of the changes showed, as a result of the review, GCC mean GPG reduced from 7.3% to 5.6% and GCC median gender pay gap reduced by from 12.7% to 7.3%.

Figures as at 31 March 2020, 31st March 2021, 31 March 2022 show further reductions, and the gap has continued to reduce as at 31 March 2023. Gloucestershire County Council does not have a bonus scheme.
