Highways Update
A seasonal update from Jason Humm, Director of Transport and Highways.
Resurfacing
Each year during April we publish the road resurfacing programme for the financial year ahead.
The schedule for this financial year can be viewed on a map on our resurfacing page, at the top of the right-hand column here: https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/resurfacing/
Zoom in on the map to see sections of road marked ‘24’ for roads due to be resurfaced during 2024/25. The map also shows sections of road marked ‘23’ for roads that were resurfaced during the last financial year.
Each year we select roads using data which consider various factors including road classification, structural condition and defect frequency.
However, it must be emphasised that the schedule can be subject to change – at times the delivery sequence may need to be adjusted due to weather, machinery or supply chain issues and schemes may be moved around within the annual programme. There are also times when unknown issues come to light during the design process that mean we are unable to deliver some schemes within the proposed financial year. However, we’ll keep our resurfacing page updated.
Our target is to improve over 100 miles of highway with our resurfacing & surface dressing programme in 24/25.
Pothole repairs
Each spring we increase our pothole repair operations to address the damage caused by winter weather and make the most of the warmer and drier weather which is more favourable for making lasting repairs.
Due to the high volume of enquiries and comments we receive about pothole repairs, as we did last year, we will be publishing weekly updates about spring and summer highways operations on our website.
During the Highways Transformation Programme we have been testing a range of new methods and machines to boost efficiency. The schedule and progress of the Spray Injection Patcher and JCB Pothole Pro is available on the spring pothole repairs webpage.
And don’t forget you can report highway issues to us through Fix My Street.
