I genuinely believe social work is the best job in the world. No two days are ever the same, and I have the privilege of working with incredible children and families every day.

What I enjoy most about working in Gloucestershire is the support around me. We have stable managers and senior leaders who are approachable, visible and committed to helping staff succeed. Although we work within localities, we are one authority with a shared commitment to improving outcomes for children and families.

Opportunities to Learn and Grow

I started my journey with Gloucestershire as a student social worker in January 2018 before joining as an ASYE later that year. Since then, I have progressed to Senior Social Worker, completed my Practice Educator training and supported social work students on placement.

The learning opportunities are excellent. Through our links with Frontline and the Gloucestershire Social Work Academy, there is access to a wide range of development opportunities, training and career progression pathways.

My team is incredibly supportive and always willing to help one another. Having stable, permanent management has allowed strong professional relationships to develop, while also providing constructive challenge that helps us continually improve our practice.

I receive regular supervision and know that support is always available when I need it. Senior leaders take the time to get to know staff, creating a culture where people feel valued and listened to.

The Perfect Work-Life Balance

I feel trusted and supported to manage my workload effectively. My manager is flexible and encourages a healthy balance between work and home life, whether I'm working remotely or in the office. That flexibility allows me to deliver the best outcomes for children while maintaining a positive work-life balance.

Why Gloucestershire?

I moved closer to Gloucestershire after securing a permanent role and quickly realised what a great place it is to live and work. There are plenty of communities across the county, allowing you to be close to work while maintaining your own space and privacy.

Making a Difference Every Day

The most rewarding part of the job is seeing positive change happen for children. Whether it's supporting a family to make lasting improvements or helping a child move into a safe and nurturing environment where they can thrive, those moments remind me why I became a social worker.
