Gloucestershire celebrates support for Ukraine

Since the Homes for Ukraine scheme launched in 2022, Gloucestershire has welcomed more than 2,000 Ukrainians fleeing the war. Today, more than 1,200 Ukrainians continue to live in the county, with many now settled in local communities, working, studying, volunteering and building new lives across Gloucestershire.

The generosity of local residents has played a vital role in that success. More than 200 Gloucestershire households currently host around 350 Ukrainian guests, with more than half of those hosting arrangements having now continued for more than 1,000 days.

Gloucestershire County Council's Migration Team continues to work closely with hosts, guests and local partners to support new arrivals, help families settle successfully, and ensure people can access housing, employment, education, healthcare and community services.

As the county marks Ukraine Independence Day, the council is encouraging more residents to consider becoming hosts and helping provide a safe, welcoming place for those being supported by the scheme.

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, cabinet member for public health, communities and fire at Gloucestershire County Council said: "Ukraine Independence Day is a chance to celebrate the resilience of Ukrainian people and to thank the Gloucestershire residents who have helped families find safety and build new lives here in our county."

We continue to welcome residents interested in becoming hosts through the Homes for Ukraine scheme and helping more families find a safe place to call home."
