Planned industrial action withdrawn following constructive discussions

Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Health & Care Trust can confirm that industrial action planned by reablement workers for 17 to 31 August 2026 has been withdrawn.

Residents receiving reablement support can be reassured that services will continue as normal, with no industrial action taking place. 

A joint spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Health & Care Trust said: "We are pleased that following constructive discussions between Gloucestershire County Council, UNISON and ACAS, planned industrial action has been withdrawn. 

“The outcome reflects a shared commitment to finding a positive way forward and to supporting colleagues working within the reablement service. 

“We would like to thank all those involved in the discussions for the constructive approach they have taken throughout." 

The Community Reablement Service will continue to be led by Gloucestershire County Council and delivered in partnership with specialist community reablement providers with effect from 1 September 2026.  

The county council said it will help more residents to receive timely support within their communities to regain confidence, rebuild daily living skills and remain independent for longer. It will support people to stay safely at home, recover following illness or a hospital stay, and reduce the need for ongoing care and avoidable admissions to hospital or residential care.
