Dementia Action Alliance
Gloucestershire "Dementia Action Alliance” working to make the County a good place for people living with Dementia and those who support them.
The overarching aims of the Gloucestershire Dementia Action Alliance (Gloucestershire DAA) are to:
- strive to ensure that everyone in the county who is living with dementia is understood, respected and supported
- enable people to continue to enjoy living and contributing to their own community; as well as possible, for as long as possible
- support the wider community to understand dementia, inspiring and enable people to contribute to creating dementia friendly communities
The Gloucestershire DAA Steering group had its initial meeting on the 4th December 2019. Obviously since then Covid-19 took priority. We are currently contacting members and working at a district level to look at what was in communities before Covid-19 lock-down, how covid-19 has affected communities and what are the priorities as a result.
The Steering group will be meeting later in the year.
Let’s Talk Dementia Board Game
The 'Let's Talk Dementia' board game was developed by Lena Maller at the Forest of Dean District Council with other members of the Forest of Dean Dementia Action Alliance. There are copies in all Gloucestershire’s libraries. If during COVID-19 you would like to access a copy of the board game please contact Lena at email@example.com and she will work with you to try and get to access to a copy.

Dementia Education Video
Thinking about challenges someone with dementia might face. This video explains ways of approaching and communicating with someone who may be living with dementia.
The Forest Response Hub Leadership Team within Publica were originally anticipating the need to use a wider workforce team to distribute the NHS Food boxes; in response to this the team asked the DFC Project Lead to develop a 15 minute online awareness session to staff. This request was cascaded to Sarah one of the Dementia Friendly Community Enablers who discussed the request with her husband Daryl (who has supported the FODDA many times at events) and their daughter Sian (who has worked proactively as a on dementia projects within her school work). The challenge was what content to include and what to leave out!! At this time Lena was manning the Forest Response Hub database so Tina Kukstas supported Sarah to verify content and message. Sarah and her family then created a resource of a short education film clip to highlight what someone with dementia might face when coming into contact with them.
