Section 1 Honeybourne Line to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout

Section 1 - Honeybourne Line to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout will deliver walking and cycling improvements along the A435 Evesham Road and through the St Paul's area, including improved crossings for pedestrians and cyclists. The route from Honeybourne Line will utilise ‘quiet streets’ (Hudson Street, Marle Hill Road, Wellesley Road and Central Cross Drive), where traffic flow is generally very low, to connect with popular Pittville Park, the largest ornamental park in Cheltenham. The scheme will also see safety improvements outside Dunalley Primary School. From Pittville Park the route will follow the A435 Evesham Road in a northerly direction to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout.

The segregated cycle path will be coloured green, helping to differentiate between walking and cycling sections, where facilities are fully segregated. Sections of shared use path will be clearly signposted and separated by tactile paving, helping to alert of changes in priorities and encouraging cyclists and pedestrians to travel with care and attention. Sections of shared use path will not be coloured green.

The route will eventually lead to Bishop’s Cleeve from the Racecourse Roundabout, as part of the overall Cheltenham to Bishop’s Cleeve scheme. In the future the cycleway route will also run from Pittville Park through the town centre, Montpellier and along the A40 Lansdown Road, linking with existing facilities on the A40 Gloucester Road.
