Motorcycle Safety

We work with partners, including Gloucestershire Police, to support motorcyclists in developing safer riding skills and reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.

Two key initiatives available to riders are BikeSafe and Biker Down.

BikeSafe

BikeSafe is a motorcycle safety initiative delivered by Gloucestershire Police. The scheme aims to improve rider safety and help reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in motorcycle collisions.

About the Scheme

BikeSafe workshops provide motorcyclists with the opportunity to develop their riding skills and increase their awareness of road risks. The sessions promote the benefits of continued learning and encourage riders to consider further advanced training.

What the Session Includes

Participants will:

• Be observed on the road by a qualified advanced motorcyclist
• Receive individual feedback on their riding
• Identify potential risks and areas for improvement
• Gain practical advice to support safer riding

Benefits

BikeSafe is an educational scheme focused on supporting riders to make informed decisions and improve their safety on the road. It helps to:

The scheme is open to riders of all abilities and experience levels.

Biker Down

Biker Down is a free safety workshop for motorcyclists and pillion passengers. It provides practical guidance on first aid, managing an accident scene, and improving visibility.

About the Scheme

Open to riders and pillions of all ages and experience levels, Biker Down focuses on what to do if you are first on the scene of a road traffic collision where someone is injured.

What the Course Includes

Delivered free of charge at SkillZONE Gloucester in small, informal groups, the course includes three modules:

• Accident scene management – making the scene safe and managing risks
• Motorcycle-specific first aid – including CPR, managing severe bleeding, and safe helmet removal
• The science of being seen – guidance on improving visibility and awareness
