St Mark’s Church (SRPrints/GL15/7GS)

By the 1840s the growing population of Kingsholm was deemed to need a church so in 1846, the parish of St. Mark’s was formed out of the parishes of St. Catherine, St. John the Baptist and St. Mary de Lode.  The church was designed by Francis Niblett in a 13th-century style with a tower with spire and it opened in 1847, having taken just one year to build.  By the year 2000, the congregation had dwindled and In November 2006, the diocese closed it for Anglican worship.  It was then leased by the Pentecostal ‘Redeemed Christian Church of God’, who renamed it the Destiny Temple.
