Committal date:  25 June 1870

Sentence: 12 strokes of the birch rod and 7 days hard labour.

Crime: Stealing sweetmeats (sweets).  He was imprisoned with his older brother – who looks like a real villain!

Age: 12

Committal date: 26 November 1869

Sentence: 6 weeks hard labour and 5-years at a reform school.

Crime: Obtaining a pan of broth with intent to defraud.
