Educational visits
How to get the most out of a group visit to the archives.
We would be delighted to host a visit for your group or class at the Archives. We can offer a tour of our public research room (where people can look at historic documents) and strongrooms (where our collections are stored in climate controlled conditions). This will help your pupils/students better understand how history is preserved for future generations.
Tours are open to people of all ages and scheduled as part of our events programme. They are also offered to learning organisations and community groups as a bookable visit. Groups can take advantage of an additional document handling session to look at archive material that their members would find interesting. If you would like to study a particular subject area, please let us know and we will aim to tailor the documents to enhance your group’s learning.
An ideal session lasts approximately 90 minutes though this can be personalized to suit your group’s particular needs.
Group visits can take place Monday to Friday. We are open 9 am to 4:30 pm though it may be possible to host a group after school finishes and beyond our opening hours.
Please contact us to arrange a visit.
Also, have a look at the risk assessment.
