W. H. Savage, master of the steam tug "Resolute" on a round trip from Sharpness to Portishead [1927], with Capt. P. H. Longney on the "Iris" from Sharpness to Gloucester along the canal [1927] and with Capt. Geo. Stiff on the "Active" from Gloucester to Stourport [1927] containing much detail about the history of navigation, trade patterns and sights along the route ("Severn vols. 2-5"); autobiographical notes by Capt. Savage "the last of the old Lydney school [of pilots]"; copies of acts of Parliament relating to the Severn Commission (1842-81) and article warning of danger of abandoning or neglecting its works; historical notes about the Thames and Severn and Stroudwater canals, based largely on information from an old canal boatman friend, and about the Droitwich canal; notes on the old Aust ferries based on oral tradition (relying on John Vizard, parish clerk since 1866, Wm.
