'Boxes of Delights' archivist
Gloucestershire Archives was awarded £41,453 from the 2013 National Cataloguing Grants Programme to catalogue the extensive archive of long-established Cirencester solicitors Sewell Mullings and Logie (D1388). The collection is particularly significant for researchers currently exploring the Cirencester area as part of The Victoria County History.
The 18 month cataloguing project was completed, led by archivists Hannah Dale and Jane Heward. A team of trained volunteers, many from the Cirencester community, helped Hannah and Jane add extra description to the catalogue. The full catalogue launched online during 2016.
Bequest archivist
Carol Walden was appointed as a full time cataloguing archivist for 18 months. Her post was funded by the bequests and cash donations we received from various groups and individuals to help us look after and make available their archive material.
Carol catalogued a number of specific collections, starting with the large Ramblers Association archive, collected by Tony Drake MBE, former footpath secretary for the Gloucestershire branch of the Ramblers' Association and its predecessors (D12676). She also targeted his own personal papers (D13066), the research papers of Michael Boyes concerning the Le Marchant family of Little Rissington (D13099) as well as other cataloguing tasks.
Carol was one of our two archive trainees for 2011-2012 and returned to us as a qualified archivist via Hull City Archives where she worked on a variety of cataloguing projects.
