The right tools for the job

We are committed to social work, not paperwork. We are committed to smarter working and ensure that you have the IT equipment and support for agile/remote working that you need from day one. With smartphones to keep you connected plus Wi-Fi in all locality offices, you’ll be able to work at any council building in Gloucestershire if you need to.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and Occupational Health

As our most valuable asset, it’s important that we do our best to support you, and help you look after yourself. Our Employee Assistance Programme offers a free, confidential advice and counselling service – accessible 24/7 for matters both inside and outside of work, including mental health and financial advice. We also provide access to our independent Occupational Health service to help keep you well at work.

Annual children’s social work health check

The annual health check gives you an opportunity to feedback on your working environment and ensure that senior leaders can understand the pressures you are facing on the ground. We make sure to dedicate our time to this process to fully gain insight into how Children’s practitioners perceive they are being supported to undertake their roles effectively, to identify areas of strength and development and to provide recommendations to the Senior Management Team.

Induction programme

When you start with us, we won’t just leave you to it! You will have access to our Corporate and Children’s induction booklet which includes everything you need to know when working for us. Our new starters’ half day induction event will equip you with a broader understanding of the organisation, including hearing from our senior leaders about our vision and attending the ‘marketplace’ where you will have the chance to ask representatives from core services and employee networks any questions you have about joining GCC.

We also encourage attendance on our Social Work Academy Essentials 2.0 training which defines GCC’s approach to social work through our core principles.
