Work updates
Project Complete - July 2026
The A466 reopened to traffic on 31st July 2026 following successful completion of the programme of works.
Works completed included:
- Vegetation clearance.
- Rock scaling.
- Rockfall protection netting installation.
- Ground investigations.
- Installation of slope monitoring equipment.
- Additional stabilisation measures identified during construction.
As works progressed and more of the rock face became exposed, additional areas of instability were identified. Around 90 metres of additional unstable rock face required treatment and further rockfall protection netting was installed.
The information gathered during the works will help Gloucestershire County Council develop future long-term solutions for managing the route.
June 2026 Update
Significant progress was made across the site during June.
Completed works included:
- Vegetation clearance.
- Descaling activities across all sections of the site.
The project then moved into the next phase, including:
- Anchor bolt drilling.
- Ground investigations.
- Preparation for installation of rockfall protection netting.
To minimise programme duration, two drilling rigs operated simultaneously across the site.
