Example Projects

Examples of projects we could fund

Grants are available up to £4,999.

Access the Gloucestershire Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment here: glos-crva-report_final.pdf. This report provides local context for climate adaptation and lists projects to be prioritised. See Appendix D for the longlist of projects.

We welcome a wide range of community climate adaptation projects. Examples include:

Managing heat and extreme weather

  • Small scale shading, cooling measures or drinking water facilities in community spaces used during hot weather.
  • Community heat resilience projects for vulnerable residents.
  • Creating and promoting local warm and cool spaces in community locations.
  • Providing adaptability measures for vulnerable residents, for example fans and ice packs, water butts, temporary shutters and reflective window glazing.

Flood and water resilience

  • Community flood preparedness initiatives, including volunteer training and emergency response equipment.
  • Small scale property flood resilience measures for community buildings.
  • Community rain gardens, water butts and sustainable drainage features that help to manage surface water flooding.
  • Projects to improve community awareness of flood risks and preparedness.

Buildings and infrastructure

  • Improvements to community buildings that improve resilience to overheating, flooding or severe weather.
  • Improvements to community facilities that enable them to act as resilience hubs during extreme weather events.

Community resilience and health

  • Programmes supporting vulnerable groups to prepare for extreme heat, flooding or other climate impacts.
  • Training and awareness activities that help communities understand and respond to climate risks.

Fire Prevention

  • Projects that help to reduce the risk and impact of wildfires.

Education and awareness

  • Community workshops, events or demonstration projects focused on climate adaptation.
  • Local adaptation toolkits, guidance or engagement campaigns.

Examples of projects that would not be funded:

  • Projects to plant trees - please get in touch with the trees team at trees@gloucestershire.gov.uk for more information about tree planting projects
  • Applications to fund individual property measures (for example flood resilience or building cooling) would not be funded unless these are to be installed on a community building
  • Projects focused solely on carbon reduction without a clear climate adaptation benefit.
  • Projects that require additional external funding that has not already been raised.
