The Community Climate Adaptation Fund

Please note  - applications are open until 30th September 📢

What is the grant for?

The Community Climate Adaptation Fund helps Gloucestershire communities adapt to climate change impacts. This is a pilot project, and at this first launch we have a total of Â£20,000 to offer to community projects. Additional projects will be considered subject to funding availability.

Applications should be for between £2,000 and £4,999. Applications open Monday 17th August 2026 and will be open for six weeks, closing Wednesday 30th September at 5pm.

Eligible groups don’t have to be climate experts to apply. We’re keen to hear from communities who are starting their journey to take action and adapt to our changing climate.

What is climate adaptation?

Climate adaptation involves preparing to reduce the potential impacts of climate change and help communities, services and infrastructure cope with the impacts that cannot be avoided.

This fund is separate from our Community Climate Change Fund – which funds only carbon reduction projects – funding projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to limit the extent of climate change.

The Community Climate Adaptation Fund will deliver funding to community initiatives that:

·       Reduce risk of climate impacts occurring

·       Reduce impact to communities when those risks occur

·       Engage with communities around climate adaptation.

Be specific about what the funding will be spent on in your project description.

Applications for climate adaptation projects should not contradict the principles of carbon reduction. Applications will be prioritised that minimise carbon impact.

Examples of projects that would not be funded:

  • Projects to plant trees - please get in touch with the trees team at trees@gloucestershire.gov.uk for more information about tree planting projects
  • Applications to fund individual property measures (for example flood resilience or building cooling) would not be funded unless these are to be installed on a community building
  • Projects focused solely on carbon reduction without a clear climate adaptation benefit.
  • Projects that require additional external funding that has not already been raised.
