Applying for a school placement:

Most Families arriving under the Homes for Ukraine scheme will need to complete an in-year school application, however if your child is due to:

  • Start school in reception for the first time in September (age 4 or 5)
  • Transfer from year 2 to a dedicated junior school in September (age 7 or 8)
  • Start year 7 in a secondary school for the first time in September (age 11 or 12)

Please go to our school admissions webpage page and follow the instructions to apply for a school place.
In all other circumstances, an in-year application will need to be completed.

In-year applications:

Families should make applications directly to the school(s) of their choice by completing a copy of the In Year Application Form, and emailing or sending a paper copy directly to the school.

Although some schools will have places available throughout the year, the choice of school may be limited by the fact that some of the most popular schools will be full when you are applying.

More information regarding in-year applications and copies of the in-year application form can be found on our applying for a school place during the school year webpage.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Although we are here to support parents and schools, the in-year process is not coordinated by Gloucestershire County Council and “Own Admission Authority Schools and Academies” make their own admission decisions.
  • School places cannot be “held” for any family.
  • In-year applications should be made directly to the school.
  • The school has 15 school days to respond to an application.
  • Once offered, the place should be taken up within 15 days.

If you need any assistance with your application, please contact the team at GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers):
