We gather, keep and share historic archive collections relating to Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire - and local and family history resources relating to Gloucestershire.
The archives are kept at our main Alvin Street site called the Heritage Hub in Gloucester, and you can use them in our public research room, free of charge.
Gloucestershire Archives is a Gloucestershire County Council service. We also provide an archive service for South Gloucestershire Council. The geographic area that these councils cover used to be a single county. Today, we call it the historic county of Gloucestershire.
Our opening times are Tuesday-Friday 9.00am-4.30pm.
Thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Gloucestershire Archives is running a two-year GREEN Pledge project to help record the county’s environmental legacy and drive forward climate action.
The project aims to encourage further environmental action by exploring climate change and involving people in green heritage activities.
Funding has been awarded for a project based at Gloucestershire Archives exploring the history of Gloucestershire’s proud maritime history.
The volunteer-led project will look into the history of Gloucestershire mariners and has been made possible thanks to a grant worth £9,522.70 from Lloyd’s Register Foundation.
