E-Cigarettes and smoking

  • Never leave E-cigarettes on charge unattended for long periods
  • Don’t mix components of different cigarettes
  • Only use the supplied charger
  • Ensure that you purchase from a reputable source
  • Check that the E-Cigarette carries CE certification

Charging tips

  • Always use the correct charger and follow the manufacturers instructions
  • Never charge a battery that has been damaged or dropped
  • Don’t overcharge. Remove the battery from the charger when complete
  • Never leave a charging battery unattended
  • Don’t use if wet
  • Do not overtighten the atomiser when connecting it to the charger

Disposal and recycling tips

  • Only place filters and canisters in your refuse bin. Electrical parts should not be placed in your refuse bin.
  • Some e-cigarette manufacturers or vaping shops may take e-cigarettes back for recycling, check with your supplier
  • Vapes can now be recycled at Household Recycling Centres provided by Gloucestershire County Council. This provides a safe way of disposing of vapes to help reduce litter and the fires caused by damage.
  • Batteries that can be removed can be recycled with household batteries

Smoking

  • Never smoke in bed. It’s very easy to fall asleep while your cigarette is still burning and set furniture alight.
  • Never smoke when under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If your lit cigarette starts a fire, you could be less able to escape.
  • Never leave lit cigarettes, cigars or pipes unattended – they can easily overbalance as they burn down
  • Make sure that your cigarette is fully extinguished. Put it out, right out.
  • Use a proper, heavy ashtray that can’t tip over easily and is made of a material that won’t burn
  • Fit and maintain a smoke alarm. They can cost less than a packet of cigarettes.
