Your work / life balance

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected how we work. At GCC we have adapted to become more agile in our working, meaning that there is flexibility in how, where and when you work.  This means that we can work effectively while out in the community and make the best use of available resources.

Flexible working

Many employees at Gloucestershire County Council have the benefit of flexible working patterns including flexi-time (TOIL scheme), job share, part-time or compressed hours (where organisational requirements allow).

Hybrid working

We are currently exploring our hybrid working arrangements which will allow for greater flexible working. The aim is to give you the option to work from home, in the office or other locality offices in a way which works well for both you and the service.

Time off work

At GCC we are working hard to ensure our employees aren’t “All work, no play”. We offer an initial holiday allowance of 25.5 days (plus the 8 Bank Holidays), which will rise to 30.5 days after five years’ continuous service with us. You also have the opportunity to request to buy up to 10 additional days off through our Purchase of Additional Leave Scheme.

“We have a volunteering policy designed to support anyone who wishes to take time out to contribute to their local community and help others.”

Other leave

We pride ourselves on being a family friendly employer and aim to offer a variety of benefits to help support you and your family. Our family friendly provisions include enhanced maternity leave, paid paternity leave, and shared parental leave with other statutory routes of leave available for emergencies. We have policies covering adoption, surrogacy, fostering, fertility and assisted conception leave. Also, we offer paid parental bereavement leave and compassionate leave.
