Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What caused the landslip?
Why were investigation works carried out?
The investigations were undertaken to collect detailed information about the condition of the slope and highway. This information will be used to inform the design of the permanent remediation works.
What investigation works were undertaken?
The investigation works included geotechnical monitoring, CCTV drainage surveys, pavement core sampling and other site assessments required to support the design process.
Is the road currently fully closed?
Yes. A full 24-hour road closure was implemented between 29th September 2026 and will be until the 9th October 2026 to enable the investigation works to be undertaken safely.
The closure allowed specialist surveys, monitoring and assessments to be carried out across the site.
What happens next?
Information collected during the investigation works will be reviewed by specialist engineers and used to develop the permanent remediation design. The scheme remains in the design development stage.
When will the main works take place?
The main remediation works are currently programmed for November 2027. This programme may be refined as the design and delivery arrangements progress.
Why have the main works been reprogrammed?
The project team previously intended to undertake the remediation works sooner. Following engagement with local stakeholders and concerns regarding cattle grazing on the commons, the works have been reprogrammed to November 2027.
