Family Link Plus is the specialist scheme run by Gloucestershire County Council fostering service that offers daytime and overnight care to children with disabilities and complex health conditions. Care can be provided by individuals, couples and families, usually in their own homes.

What is short break fostering for children with disabilities?

Many families who are caring full time for their disabled child are in real need of a short break. This allows them time to relax, have some time for themselves and other members of their family or just to complete simple tasks that be really challenging as a full-time carer.

The needs of the children

Children and young people who use the scheme will enjoy the same activities as all children, but they may have conditions that impact on how they lead their lives. This may include how they communicate with others or their ability to access activities and opportunities. They may have learning or physical disabilities or complex health needs. They will need extra time and patience from the adults caring for them.
