Gloucestershire County Council’s foster carers and support teams are sharing their #FosteringMoments this Foster Care Fortnight to show how fostering transforms lives and encourage more people to foster for the council.

Foster Care Fortnight runs from Monday 13 May to Sunday 26 May. It is The Fostering Network’s annual campaign to raise the profile of fostering and show how foster care transforms lives. The theme this year is #FosteringMoments.

The council’s foster carers and fostering support teams are sharing their standout memories and the special moments which make their roles so rewarding. It is an opportunity to celebrate the moments that define fostering journeys, big and small. Here are some of the moments that built confidence, made young people feel safe and created lifetime memories for everyone involved.

  • “My favourite Fostering Moments have to be all the firsts. First bedtime story, first ice cream on the beach, first words, first day at school, first holiday. What a privilege to share such joy!”
  • “A brother and sister group we previously cared for, returned to us after a reunification breakdown. They told their social worker, ‘That’s not going into care, that's like going to our family.'”
  • “Wow, what a privilege as a foster carer to be able to be part of enabling a boy to see his grandparents, share a simple bit of food with them and share some time with them. I know it meant a lot to him, and I know it meant a lot to them. It was a real pleasure just to be able to be a part of helping that happen. A really precious moment.”
  • “Knowing that a group of four brothers are still with their fostering family 12 years on… happy, settled and belonging forever.”
  • “Celebrating long-term matches with children and their foster carers. It always means so much to the child knowing that they will stay in this family until they leave home.”

Cllr Stephen Davies, cabinet member for children’s safeguarding and early years at Gloucestershire County Council said:

Fostering transforms the lives of everyone involved and there are lots of moments, big and small, along the way which make a positive difference in a child’s life.

We are looking for more local families and individuals interested in fostering for the county council, so that children who aren’t able to live with their birth family can stay within their communities, at their school and close to family and friends.

Contact us now for a conversation about whether joining our local fostering family could be for you. We will tell you about the training, support, and financial package available to foster carers, and how you can make every moment matter.

Whether you are employed or not, you live alone or as part of a family, if you are interested in fostering, we would love to hear from you. Contact us now for a no obligation conversation to find out more about how we can support you to become a foster carer for Gloucestershire County Council.
