Fostering babies
Fostering babies. Ideal if you are already a full-time parent, or have grown up children still living at home so you don’t have a spare room.
The majority of fostering requires you to have a spare room. However, you can foster babies up until their 3rd birthday if you are able to have a cot in your own bedroom.
What is involved with fostering a baby?
Although you need a spare room for the majority of types of foster care, if you don't have a spare room but have ample space in your home and are available full time - then fostering babies (below 3 years old) might be for you.
During the recruitment process for foster carers intending to care for babies, all checks and references of the applicants remain the same as they would for households with a spare bedroom.
Applicants should have prior experience caring for or working with children in some capacity and the main carer should be available to care full time. All applicants would be expected to complete First Aid and Infant Care during their assessment and prior to the fostering panel.
There should be ample space within the home to enable babies to explore and develop and for their toys and belongings to be kept safely. Suitability will be assessed on an individual basis.
