What is short-term fostering?

Short-term fostering is the most common type of fostering. You’ll offer stability and support during a period of uncertainty.

The need for short term fostering may arise from:

  • Parents being unwell.
  • Parents finding it difficult to care for a child at a particular time.
  • A child waiting to be adopted.
  • A family going through care proceedings.

How short-term fostering differs from other types of fostering

  • You might have more frequent contact with children’s birth families
  • You might need to be involved in more meetings or court appearances about the future of the children
  • You might be involved in introducing children to their new adoptive families
