Staying Put
Staying Put. Extending the stability and security.
When foster carers and young people are happy to enter into staying put arrangements, we fully support their decision. We pay a staying put weekly allowance to facilitate this.
What is Staying Put?
Staying Put is a UK policy that allows young people who have been in foster care to continue living with their former foster carers after they turn 18. This arrangement is designed to provide a more gradual and supportive transition into adulthood, mirroring the experience of young people who grow up in their birth families.
The young person is no longer legally looked after under fostering regulations, but both they and the foster carers are supported by the leaving care team at GCC.
At Gloucestershire County Council we pay our foster carers 'up to' £385 per week for this commitment. This amount is made up of 3 components:
- Housing benefit.
- Contribution from young person if they are working.
- Payment from GCC to address any shortfall up to a total of £385 per week.
