Making a DoLS application

This page explains how professionals can make a Deprivation of liberty Safeguards (DoLS) application. If you are a family member or friend who wishes to raise a concern, you can find out how to do this in the What is safeguarding? section.

How to make an application

Applications to the DoLS Team should be made using the online form in our Adult Social Care Professional Portal. Our guidance document provides instructions about how to register to use the portal.

Informing families and carers

Managing Authorities must ensure that the relevant person's family, friends and carers are informed that an application for a Deprivation of Liberty has been made, unless it is impractical or impossible to do so.

Relevant Person’s Representatives

A Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) is appointed to support a person who is deprived of their liberty under the DoLS. The Relevant Person's Representative Information Booklet explains the DoLS process and the support available.
