The 2026 Medication Administration updates the framework for the safe, lawful and person-centred management of medication across its in-house adult and children’s services. The policy strengthens governance, accountability and safeguarding arrangements, while reinforcing the principle that individuals should be supported to remain as independent as possible in managing their medicines. It provides clearer guidance on assessment, consent, mental capacity, children’s rights, risk management, record keeping, training and competency requirements, alongside enhanced procedures for high-risk areas such as emergency medication, controlled drugs, covert administration and medication errors. Aligned with current legislation, best practice and regulatory expectations, the policy aims to promote safe and consistent medication practices while protecting individual choice, dignity and wellbeing.
